We are a small and growing Bay Area consulting firm looking for an Accountant to join our team. The successful Accountant is an energetic professional who is highly organized and is able to work independently as well as alongside our 11 staff members.

Winter Consulting’s projects commonly center around community engagement to assist public agencies in getting ample community input on upcoming plans that will impact community members. Many of these projects focus on integrating voices and feedback from historically underrepresented communities. We are passionate about racial and social equity and would like to hire someone that honors our values in addition to excelling as an Accountant for a rapidly growing firm. 
 

Responsibilities

The Accountant fulfills multiple financial responsibilities for the Winter Consulting team. The Accountant leads the tracking of company financials and bookkeeping, manages payroll, assesses new contracts and insurance needs, and creates monthly invoices for all projects. The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal/CEO and also engage with other team members on project billing.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Invoicing: prepare monthly invoices for all projects in BigTime system, verify accuracy with project managers, and send invoices to clients

  • Accounts Receivable: handle incoming mail (checks) and deposits; run monthly AR reports and contact clients that have overdue invoices

  • Bookkeeping: enter all income and expenses in QuickBooks and do monthly reconciliations; finalize year end books and turn over relevant reports to CPA; assist with tax preparation

  • Accounts Payable: manage contractor agreements, W-9 collection, prepare payments to all contractors and file 1099’s at the end of the year

  • Employee management: manage BigTime system (our time keeping and invoicing system) and develop reports; verify timesheet and expense report accuracy and compile records; manage payroll system and update as needed; compile executive expense reports

  • Budget management: assist project managers to monitor the financial health of their projects including forecasting and planned versus actual budget analysis 

  • Contracting and insurance: oversee new project contract review; maintain company insurance policies and make requests for insurance certificates required for contracts

  • File business licenses and file and pay LLC taxes and fees

  • Develop new systems and additional key projects as directed

Required Skills/Experience

  • 3-5 years professional experience in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks

  • Communication Skills - Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Professionalism - Ability to convey a respectful and knowledgeable demeanor when discussing matters with colleagues, clients, or community members

  • Time Management - Ability to ensure timely execution of day-to-day responsibilities and manage simultaneous deadlines

  • Teamwork - Strive to be an integral team member, communicate effectively, and build synergy within the team

  • Cultural Competency - Sensitivity to cultural differences

  • Software - Quickbooks or other accounting software experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat.

  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 - our clients require all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • CRM experience 

  • Familiarity with government contracts and audited rates

 

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position is $80,000 - 90,000. Employee benefits include vacation, holidays, and retirement 401(k) with matching contributions. Our firm does not yet offer health insurance, which is considered in the salary range.
